Funcom has polished their little gem in the rough so much, it is astounding how far they have come. AOC at release was a buggy, resource hogging, shallow mess. But just like Funcom did with Anarchy Online which also launched like a lamb and turned into a lion; Conan is practicaly a new game. The release of ROTGS is the offical trumpet call for anyone who was waiting to try AOC. Conan is now ready.

The DX10 graphics are amazing and much streamlined. The alternate advancement system works well and was a brilliant move to keep old world content from being outdated. The music is probably the best soundtrack in any MMORPG ever. The new zones are wide open and give you a feeling of freedom that the original areas might have lacked. I’m not really sure what else to say, I don’t want to harp on about every little thing or I’d sound like some company shill.

Basically if your looking for a dark and gritty low fantasy MMO full of guts and glory, give AOC a try. IF you much prefer science fiction I suggest Fallen Earth. If your looking for free to play, DDO is the way to go. AOC eats system resources for breakfest so before you buy, make sure you go to to that website that compares your system specs to game reqs.

But please parents, this game is not for children. It is rated Mature for a reason; if your kids want to play a MMMO send your wee ones to Wizard101 or Free realms and the teens to WOW.

Edit: Some people have been asking exactly what this product comes with. It is the Rise of the Godslayer expansion + The original full retail game Age of Conan + 30 days gametime + Tortage Survival pack ( assorted item pack) + a unique puma pet only available in this boxed edition.

Please note if you add this cdkey to an existing account you will not get the gametime, thats just for new accounts.

I play both World of Warcraft and Lord of the Rings Online, as a very casual player.

I passed up Age of Conan when it first came out two years ago because I was just getting into LotRO, and then I read about the initial AoC problems.

But when Rise of the Godlslayer came out I decided to try it out, looking for a change of pace.

The game installed with no problems and I have not experienced a single crash in playing probably 20 hours now. Created a bear shaman and leveled all the way thru Tortage and am now in Cimmeria, level 27. Great, great fun so far!

There seem to be a lot of people on but its not crowded, and the players are pretty friendly so far. I have not done any instances yet or PvP, but I have explored a bit and fought lots of monsters, with nary a game glitch in sight. I think I will stick with it.

If you were, like me, tempted to play Age of Conan earlier but decided not to after the initial launch, I’d say give it a try.

I would add that one of the negative reviews seem to be from someone who is upset that the original game had issues. While it’s understandable, the new expansion should be reviewed on its own merits.

The client is far better and stable, and the new lvl 20-40 content is awesome. All ex players or folks who are bored with WOW should give this a try. Funcom has really improved over the years.

I played at launch. There were multiple game breaking issues. I quit after 2 months.

I’ve been reading a lot of positive reviews lately so I decided to buy the expansion and give AoC another chance after being away for nearly 2 years. I am very impressed. Nearly all of the technical issues and bugs present in 2008 have been fixed. In 3 weeks of play so far, I have not experienced a single crash to desktop. The game runs smoothly on the highest video settings on my mid level computer and graphics card.

Probably the biggest gripe of players in 2008 was the overall lack of content for those leveling from the 50′s upward. There was also a distinct lack of content for those who reached 80 since city sieges were broken at the beginning and very buggy once they got them working. Funcom has been very busy the past two years addressing these issues by adding an immense amount of content. Multiple raid dungeons have been added along with a lot of new content for those leveling up. The game world seems full now and there is always something to do whether you preference is running WoW style boss raids, questing, crafting, or PvP in its multiple forms.

I highly recommend Age of Conan now. If the game had been released in 2008 with something close to it’s current level of polish, it certainly would be one of the top MMO’s today.

The expansion gave me another reason to stick to the game. End game is now filled with objectives that allow you to progress your character in different ways, making it very viable and fun to play. The new advancement system and the factions give you the chance to acquire more abilities and evolve your character into a highest level. There are now goals to achieve in the pve and pvp worlds that really makes you feel you are achieving objectives.

Besides the expansion, there are have been, and there will be mores updates that improves not only the gameplay, but the performance of the game. I have been on game for more than a year, and since the game director was changed, I have only seen improvements directed or oriented by the game community.

Don’t listen to those haters that quit the game after a month, and that are still giving bad reviews about a game that they don’t play anymore.
