   You must hit enter after you finish typing the code. The text should go away along with the box. If the box doesn’t go away, hit the esc key.

   If you have typed in the code and hit enter, and nothing has changed, you must have typed the code incorrectly.
   If you misspell, or type an invalid code, the box will display an error string and it won’t go away.
   In order to fix this, type

   clear (enter)
   exit (enter)

   When you restart your game, the cheat box will be normal again, just be careful not to misspell any cheats.
